Some key skills you need to successfully do this job would also be communication, time management, conflict resolution and general business management. His biggest challenge would be managing the cultural differences in the various countries he serves in.

The South African way of doing business is not necessarily the same in other countries. You need to learn, adapt and respect all the different cultures and being fluent in Portuguese and French is a great advantage. He has an excellent career counselor in his wife. In essence, successful HR Business Partners need to truly understand all aspects of the business.

Organizations have invested in developing HRBP competencies, but individual attributes are only half the picture. Four organizational barriers inhibit the strategic effectiveness of even the most capable HRBPs:.

The most obvious trend with companies seeking HR Business Partners is the shifting of typical generalist responsibilities to now encompass a higher ratio of Talent Management responsibility in the role. Lower margins, more external competition and tighter economies, have turned companies focus inward to ensure that they are nurturing and developing their internal talent in line with business objectives.
